News Flash

Yesterday while I was making dinner, I noticed Tyler in the other room playing with my camera. I only caught the end of what he was video taping, but he seemed to be taking it very seriously.

A little later I went to check out what he had filmed. I discovered this gem and about died laughing.

Apparently there is a lot of destruction on the news these days...especially if you watch the nightly lightly news. And who knew Tyler wanted a career in newscasting?

The Count

Seriously, I could put him in a bowl, pour milk all over him and eat him for breakfast. He's so SWEET!

Cowtown

A couple weeks ago, John and I ran the Cowtown 10k...together. The 10k part isn't the amazing part, it's the together part that is so miraculous. It has been a very long time since we have been able to participate in any event together.
When Robby was diagnosed, we weren't sure if we'd ever be able to do stuff like this together, but we did it! It took a lot of preparation and planning, but we did it! I can not begin to tell you how blessed we have been that we not only have one amazing young woman that we trust and who has been willing and capable to be trained on Robby's diabetes care, but we have TWO...and they are both AMAZING! This has been such a huge blessing, and we were grateful on this morning that one of these fantastic ladies was willing to drive over at 5:45 am so that we could get to the race on time.
We carpooled with John's friend Mark and my friend Jen, which made this dark, cold morning a little more exciting.
*Plus, we were able to take this totally awesome pre-race picture that I think should be entitled "reflective gear...it really works."

Before we started, I made it completely clear to John that he didn't have to run with me, that he could go at his own pace (which would be much faster than mine). And bless his heart, he made it quite clear that this was our "date" and we'd be running together.
...and I'm glad that's what we did. We had a great time running, laughing, and talking together. It was a perfect date with my sweetie. I'll also never forget when John fielded a phone call from the sitter on his cell at mile 5, just as we were ramping up our pace for our finish (she was calling to let us know that Robby's blood sugar had been dangerously low when he woke up and it was also time to walk through the numbers for the breakfast bolus). Bless his heart, John continued to hold our quickened pace even with the phone to his ear.
And the best part is we even got to cross the finish line holding hands :)

Toothless

First tooth
He was so brave. After a few days of wiggling, that baby came right out (with a little help from my friend Laura who gave it a slight tug...I can't stomach the tooth thing).
And since I knew it was coming, I hurried and sewed this little tooth pocket pillow and finished it the morning the tooth came out.
...and he was thrilled at the idea that his own mouth can make him rich $$$!
I guess he really is my big boy now. Sigh.

Sleep

Maybe when you're not getting as much sleep as you'd like, it's easy to focus on those who are.
Here are a few pics of my boys and their cute sleeping habits.
Robby is my cuddler. He loves being all cozy and wrapped up tight...still...at two years old. The picture above was taken an hour and a half after I put him down for his nap in this exact same position. That's right. The boy didn't move. Most times I lay him down for naps, he falls asleep, and doesn't move the entire time. Cracks me up! (and yes, I still let him sleep with a pacifier. I don't have the heart to take it away after all the crap this kid has to endure with all his diabetes treatments. One pacifier doesn't begin to make up for all the pokes, but at least it makes me feel better.)

This was taken several months ago, but it's so Tyler. This kiddo loves to sleep with "stuff." When he was about Robby's age, I did take away the pacifier, but I followed the old Dr. Spock philosophy of replacing it with something else, so we went to the store and let him choose something to sleep with instead. He chose a green dinosaur. It worked like a champ. After several weeks, he started to ask to sleep with other toys instead. Given that he fell asleep so fast (and still does today), we knew he wasn't going to just lay in bed and play with it, so we agreed. Since that time, he has always slept with something...usually a stuffed animal or a small transformer car or something, but he has also slept with other odd things on occasion- like a fruit snack shaped like a rocket that he was all jazzed about when he was three years old or so and a Mr. Potato Head, but without any of the accessories because he knew they would fall of in his bed, so he basically slept with a potato.
On this particular night, he selected Big Baby, along with a few other stuffed animals. And in case you can't tell from the picture, he has her all nicely tucked in right next to him.
Aren't these the moments that make all the stress of being a parent at least partially worth it?
(and I do plan to some day show his wife this picture of him sleeping with a baby doll in pink sheets).
